The Joe Balderrama Recreation Center, located in three-acre Joe Balderrama Park, is a 12,000-square-foot facility designed to meet the needs of the Eastside Community. Included in the facility are an auditorium with a stage and kitchen, game/activities room, four multi-purpose/meeting rooms and two courtyards. Approximately 100,000 annual participants take advantage of the many activities and special events offered at the center. Activities include: daily childcare, after-school programs, teen programs, a variety of youth sports, dance, fitness and educational classes, day camps and community-wide special events (Halloween Carnival, Spring Egg Hunt, Day in the Park, etc.).
As a recipient of Community Development Block Grant funds, the Joe Balderrama Recreation Center encourages collaborative efforts between North County Community Services and Vista Community Clinic.
The building is open to the public M/W/F – 9am-6pm; T/TH – 9am-7:30pm; Sat 8am-4pm. A schedule of activities is posted quarterly. The facility and/or rooms are available for rental.

BEACH RECREATION CENTER

The Beach Recreation Center, located below the Oceanside Municipal Pier, is a 17,000-square-foot facility designed to meet the needs of the entire community. Included in the facility are a gymnasium, game/activities room, meeting room, kitchen, stage, and locker/shower rooms. Approximately 200,000 annual participants take advantage of the many activities and special events offered at the center. Activities include: basketball, volleyball, badminton, soccer, sports camps, day camps, wheelchair rugby, teen programs, billiards, ping pong, foosball and a variety of special events (weddings, birthdays, dances, etc.).
The Beach Recreation Center is also home to the City of Oceanside Sports Office. This office serves as an information center, providing information and contacts for both youth and adult sports programs. Local little league, softball league, soccer league and football league information can be obtained here. Also, permits for City athletic fields are issued in the Sports Office.
The building is open to the public M-Th 10am-8pm; F 10am-5:30pm; Sat Basketball Season (December through March) 8am-5pm; Sat (April-November) 8am-12noon. Beach Recreation Center is available for rentals on Sat/Sun. Please inquire within.

Oceanside Parks and Recreation Services' youth and adult athletic programs offer a wide variety of sports, with year-round programming for every level and ability. Serving as an information center for adults and youth sports programs, the Beach Recreation Center Sports Office is open Mon-Fri 10:00 am-5:00 pm. Reservations and permits for City athletic fields are issued here. Permits may be obtained Mon-Fri 10:00 am-5:00 pm. For information, call (760) 435-5233 or visit the office.

Melba Bishop Recreation Center, located in 16-acre Melba Bishop Park, is a 35,000-square-foot facility designed to meet the needs of the entire community. Included in the facility are a gymnasium with two full-size basketball courts and locker/shower facilities, auditorium, meeting room, dance/fitness room, weight room, and preschool room. Approximately 250,000 annual participants take advantage of the many activities and events offered at the center. Activities include basketball, volleyball, soccer, sports camps, day camps, tiny tots, after-school programs, teen programs, field trips and a variety of dance, educational and fitness classes.
In addition to a wide variety of youth and sports programming, the Melba Bishop Recreation Center serves as a satellite Senior Center for those over 55 living in the eastern part of Oceanside. All activities are free. For more information call the Center at (760) 435-5550.
