Recommended VFR Noise-Abatement Procedures
The City of Oceanside and the residents of the Oceanside Community welcome you to our City. In order to be a good neighbor, the Airport and the Community requests that you follow these recommended noise-abatement procedures. Flight safety must supercede noise-mitigation procedures. All FARs apply. Use latest information from the FAA
ARRIVALS
Runway 24 – Right-Hand Traffic (Calm-wind runway)
Runway 6 – Left-Hand Traffic
Runway 24 Arrivals from East
Cross over OKB at 2,000 ft. heading southwest. Begin descent after crossing shoreline. Turn north, continuing descent to traffic pattern altitude (TPA). Turn inbound (east) when at TPA. Cross over the Santa Margarita River and go direct to water tower. Start 45 degree pattern entry directly over water tower.
Runway 24 Arrivals from North and South
Be at traffic pattern altitude (TPA), slightly offshore. Cross over the Santa Margarita River and go direct to water tower. Start 45 degree pattern entry directly over water tower.
All Arrivals
Shoreline traffic is intensive. Be vigilant for other aircraft. Give plenty of time to orient yourself outside the pattern.
DEPARTURES
Runway 24 Departure
Climb at best angle of climb (Vx) to 500 ft. Reduce power by 100 RPM or 1” MP if practical. Follow the San Luis Rey River past the harbor before turning. The most noise-sensitive area is along the north side of the San Luis Rey River from the Church, west to Interstate 5. Please do not overfly this area. Avoid straight-out departures. Use Highway 76 as a departure landmark by keeping it in close view under the left side of aircraft.
Runway 6 Departure
Climb at best angle of climb (Vx) to 500 ft. Bank left as early as practical to avoid school/hill. Follow San Luis Rey River to exit pattern. Reduce power by 100 RPM or 1” MP if practical. Pattern is the same but reversed. Upwind leg will need to be extended.
ALL AIRCRAFT – ALL RUNWAYS
Please avoid the following activities for noise-abatement: Touch-and-Goes are not allowed. Avoid training and practice VOR approaches during Church services each day 11 a.m. to 12 noon, and Sunday, all morning, until noon. Please avoid full-power climb-outs on practice VOR missed approaches.
Non-Standard Traffic Pattern in use. Expect intensive shoreline and training traffic. Faster aircraft will need to extend pattern.
