Celebrate Oceanside’s History

Many have lived in Oceanside for years and are unaware of the gem that is right here in our Neighborhood. A quiet place to rest, a backdrop filled with Oceanside’s history and charm, and a unique group of individuals who work tirelessly to maintain the space all contribute to the landmark Oceanside calls Heritage Park.

Heritage Park Village and Museum, located at 220 Peyri Road, proudly celebrates its 30th anniversary. The park is home to many of the original historic buildings of Oceanside. Built in 1976 as a Bicentennial project to honor part of Oceanside’s heritage, the park provides an ambient backdrop for educational programs, special events and community gatherings of all kinds.

Located near the Historical Mission San Luis Rey which has been a spiritual and cultural center to the community for 200 years, the two-acre park is situated on El Camino Real or the King Highway, which was the Spanish exploration trail and later served as a wagon and stagecoach route between Los Angeles and San Diego, the original “I-5” super highway!

When you enter Heritage Park Village and Museum you are immediately transported back in time to a simpler Oceanside. The gazebo and a grassy park with a winding walking path reminds us of a time when families spent leisurely time picnicking and socializing among friends and family.

The majority of the work and historical preservation of the site is a function of the all-volunteer group, the “Friends of Heritage Park”, who pride themselves in keeping the history of Oceanside alive for generations to come.

In order to keep this piece of Oceanside History alive the “Friends of Heritage Park” accept donations of time, materials, artifacts and money. To donate or learn more about membership contact (760) 433-8297.

Come and enjoy a slice of Oceanside history with friends and family. To learn more about this park see the feature article in the Fall edition of Oceanside Magazine.

For more information on Heritage Park or to book a special event or take a tour of the Park call (760) 966-4545.
