Potential Candidates and Political Action Committees (PAC's)



Oceanside's General Municipal Election will be held on Tuesday, November 6, 2012. The positions open for election are: Mayor (1), Member of the City Council (2), City Clerk (1) and City Treasurer (1). For those interested in running for one of these seats, the filing period for candidates is July 16 - August 10, 2012. Only during this candidate filing period can the official nomination papers be issued and returned to the City Clerk's Office.

Be aware that forms may need to be filed now, such a "Candidate Intention Statement" for all candidates and/or a committee "Statement of Organization" for those potential candidates and PAC's planning to expend or receive more than $1,000. be aware that there are documents and forms that must first be filed. Therefore, prior to any such expenditures or contributions, please contact us regarding the current election laws covering campaign funds.

For this or other information on becoming a candidate/PAC this election, please call the City Clerk's Office at (760) 435-3000. Office hours are 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Fridays.

Others Involved in the Election

If you will be independently involved in political campaign contributions to and/or expenditures regarding candidates for the upcoming Oceanside Municipal Election November 6, 2012, you may need to register as a Political Action Committee under requirements prescribed by the California Political Reform Act of 1974. Contact the City Clerk’s Office, (760) 435-3000, to find out more information and to be in compliance with California Election laws.
