Councilmember Gary Felien
Council Member Gary Felien might be new to the dais but he is no stranger to the City of Oceanside. He joined the City as the City Treasurer in 2009, filling the position left vacant by Rosemary Jones’ passing.
Council Member Felien and his wife Karen have resided in Oceanside since 1988 and have raised their two sons and one daughter in the community. They have both been very active in school activities at Ivey Ranch, King Middle School, and El Camino High School. Their oldest son Justin attends Mira Costa College, their daughter Sarah recently joined the workforce, and their youngest son David attends Cal State San Marcos.
Council Member Felien received his BA from Cal State University Fullerton in Finance and a Masters from UC Irvine in Accounting. Following graduation he worked in corporate America for twenty-nine years in accounting and finance. Upon leaving the corporate world, he concentrated on managing his personal investments and real estate which enables him to be very involved in his children’s lives and community affairs.
In addition to being an Eagle Scout, Council Member Felien still works closely with the Boy Scout organization. He is also the County Treasurer for the Republican Party and is the Vice Chairman of the Republican Party County Treasurer’s Association.
Council Member Felien loves to read and is especially fond of history and economics, historical fiction, and science fiction. When not reading and spending time with his family, he can be found playing strategy games.
