Jerry Kern was re-elected to his third term on the Oceanside City Council in November 2014. It gives him great pleasure to serve the residents of Oceanside, and is honored by the trust and confidence given to him by the people. He is proud of his record and many accomplishments while serving on the City Council and hopes to continue to be a voice for the community at large.
Jerry is a veteran and proud to have served in the United States Air Force. Jerry was stationed in Great Britain and Camp Pendleton. Jerry received his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from San Diego State University, and Social Science and Business teaching credential from Chapman University.
Jerry and his wife, Blake, are native Californians who have lived in Oceanside since 1975. They have two adult children; a son employed by Oceanside Unified School District, a daughter who lives and works in the Bay Area, and two grandchildren. Jerry and Blake were co-founders of Pacific View Charter School, the first charter school to be approved in Oceanside, where they also taught for many years.
Since coming to Oceanside Jerry has been extremely involved in the community. He has served as President of the Oceanside Chamber of Commerce and on a variety of boards, commissions, and committees including the Historic Preservation Advisory Commission, the SeaGaze Steering Committee, the El Corazon Oversight Committee, and member of the San Diego County Water Authority to name just a few. Jerry currently serves on the Community Engagement Panel for the decommissioning of the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station (SONGS) and is working toward removing the remaining nuclear fuel off the site.
