Thank you for considering employment with the City of Oceanside.
This information is provided to assist you in understanding our employment process.
Job Announcement
The job announcement lists a brief summary of the position, essential duties, qualifications, special requirements, and working conditions. Please review this information carefully to assure that you meet these criteria before applying.
Application Packet
To be considered, please submit a completed, signed City of Oceanside Employment Application and, if applicable, a Supplemental Questionnaire form. These documents will be used to determine whether you meet the minimum job requirements.
Remember, please do not fill in sections with "see resume" or you will be disqualified.
How to Apply
Submit a separate employment application packet for each position for which you apply:
Apply online at jobs.cityofoceanside.com.
You may apply in one of the following ways:
- Visit the Computer Application Center in the Human Resources Department:
300B North Coast Highway
2nd floor, City Hall South
Oceanside, CA 92054
Hours 7:30AM - 5:00PM Mon - Thurs; 7:30AM - 4:00PM Fri
NOTE: Computers are available on a first-come, first-served basis. It is to your advantage to complete your application well in advance of the application deadline.
- Apply online on our web site from your personal computer: jobs.cityofoceanside.com
Completing Your Application
- Your application must be legible and complete. All questions must be answered.
- Your application must be received by the Human Resources Department before the deadline listed on the job announcement. Postmarks and facsimiles are not acceptable when determining if an application meets the deadline.
- Veteran Credit: Veteran credit is available only for the first employment with the City. Veterans who have been honorably discharged or released from active military service under honorable conditions, not more than ten years prior to application, and who served at least one-hundred-eighty (180) days active duty shall be entitled to an additional credit of five points to be added to their passing score in determining their standing on a nonpromotional eligibility list. A copy of your DD214 is required and must be submitted to qualify for the credit.
Filing Deadlines
Most jobs have application filing deadlines. The deadline is in writing on the original job announcement under the section "Application Procedure". Where a deadline is given, the Human Resources Department must receive applications by the filing deadline indicated on the job announcement. Postmarks, photocopies, and faxes will not be accepted.
Required Documents
Many recruitments require additional documents such as copies of certificates, licenses, and transcripts. The Job Announcement will state if additional documents are required. All additional documents must be submitted, with the Confirmation/Cover page, to Human Resources prior to the application deadline.
Open Until Filled
Some jobs are listed as open until filled. An application should be filed as soon as possible since the position will close when sufficient qualified applications have been received.
Continuous Filing
This means that applications are accepted continuously. Applications are periodically screened and reviewed, then sent to departments for further consideration. The hiring department, not the Human Resources Department, will notify you of an interview for those jobs.
Multiple Applications
If you are applying for more than one position, a separate application is needed for each.
Notification
We will notify all candidates by mail as to the status of their application after the final closing date.
