Photo Contest: Rules, Terms and Conditions
The Oceanside Public Library invites photographers to enter its “My Oceanside” Photo Competition. You must read the following rules, terms and legal conditions before submitting any photos!
The Oceanside Public Library “My Oceanside” Photo Contest (the "Contest") is open to amateur photographers of all ages. The contest is open to all participants regardless of residence or citizenship, so long as the laws of their jurisdiction allow participation.
WHAT TO ENTER:
The Library is looking for photographs that show multiple views of Oceanside, CA. We are looking for striking images, highlighting the diversity of life in Oceanside. Submit images of family life, built environments, natural landscapes, weather, people interacting with nature, ocean life, street life – anything that you see that you think makes Oceanside a special and exciting place to be.
Application forms, or all the information requested on the forms for email entries, must accompany all submissions, and should include the subject of the image, the location the image was taken, and the name of the photographer(s). Please clearly label all images with appropriate information to assist judges in determining eligibility.
HOW TO ENTER:
Application and all accompanying material must be delivered by postal mail (not postmarked), or hand-delivered to:

For mail or hand delivery, please submit each photo individually in its own protective envelope with a completed entry form for that photo. The photographer’s name, address, and phone number must be written on the back of the photo and on the outside of the protective envelope.
For e-mail please do not exceed an attachment size of 4MB, with only 1 photo per e-mail, subject line to include “Library Photo Contest”, and all application form info included in the body of the message.
ELIGIBILITY AND JUDGING:
To ensure eligibility for the contest, all entries must be able to be printed to at least 8”x10” and no larger than 16”x20” and selected Photos must be mounted. They may not be matted or framed.
Oceanside Public Library is not responsible for printing or mounting any of the selected images. Once an image is selected and the photographer notified it is the responsibility of the photographer to print, mount and deliver the image for display.
Entries may originate in any format — including, but not limited to digital files, digital prints, color transparencies, color prints, or black and white prints - so long as they can be printed to at least 8”x10”. Previously published material is not permitted.
Images will be judged on originality, technical excellence, composition, overall impact and artistic merit. The judges will be a panel of Library staff members familiar with photography and responsible for selecting images for various Oceanside Public Library materials.
The Oceanside Public Library shall determine winner eligibility in its sole and absolute discretion. All decisions made by the judges are final.
Entries must be received, either in person or by mail (email or post) by 5:00 p.m.. Friday, March 29, 2013 for consideration.
Photos selected for display will be announced on or before Friday, April 12, 2013.
Selected entrants will be asked to submit a printed and mounted version of their image by Tuesday, April 30, 2013.
The Oceanside Public Library reserves the right to adjust any deadline(s) as the result of causes beyond its immediate control.
The judging panel will select up to approximately 25 photos (or fewer) to be the displayed at the Oceanside Public Library.
You will retain all rights to any photograph you submit -- including ownership if applicable. The Library assumes no responsibility for any initial or final entries submitted.
If your photograph is formally honored and chosen to be part of the “My Oceanside” show you grant Oceanside Public Library a royalty-free, non-exclusive right, in perpetuity, to:
- Use the photograph on the Internet in support of the Library’s mission.
- Use the photograph in Library communications.
- Provide your photograph to other individuals and organizations for non-commercial use, use in news stories, newsletters, reports, slide shows, displays, web pages, and the like, in support of the Library’s mission.
- Use your name, city, state and country of residence in promotions and other publications in connection with the Photo Contest.
- Keep the files provided, and to archive the images on CD or in other electronic forms, so that your photos can be used to support our mission and be properly credited.
As conditions of this permission, the Oceanside Public Library shall credit all photographs with the caption "© Person's Name".
