Oceanside SUN 2011

Oceanside SUN 2011: Make A Difference - October 22nd in Eastside

On Saturday, October 22, 2011, the City of Oceanside will partner with community residents, volunteer groups, and corporate sponsors for the annual Oceanside SUN (Supporting Urban Neighborhoods) Project. Oceanside SUN 2011 will make improvements to homes and neighborhood facilities in the Eastside neighborhood. This year the project is being held on “Make A Difference Day” a national day of service dedicated to helping others.

SUN Project activities will include house painting, trash and debris removal, and other area enhancements. The City of Oceanside Neighborhood Services Department coordinates the details of the event, gathers volunteers, obtains necessary sponsorships and donations, and prepares the way for a successful workday. Local businesses are also contacted to participate and sponsors will be announced as they are solidified.

Volunteers may join as individuals or as a group. A house captain will be assigned to each house/project site and will have a detailed plan for improvements. Volunteers will be directed to their project site on the day of the event.  Staging areas will be set up at various locations to allow easy access to materials, and sections of some streets in the project area will be closed for the day as a safety precaution. Registration will take place at Joe Balderrama Park located at 709 San Diego Street on the morning of the event, but pre-registration is highly recommended. All volunteers are required to complete a Volunteer Registration form and volunteers under 18 must also have a Minor Volunteer Permission form signed by a parent or legal guardian to participate. We have had wonderful participation in the past from area residents, schools, churches, civic service organizations, business groups, our neighbors at Camp Pendleton, and City officials and employees. We look forward to their participation again this year and new volunteers are always welcome.

Volunteers will be treated to food and drinks, a Project T-shirt, and a full day of work to improve the neighborhood. Oceanside SUN 2011 will have a lasting influence on the community as well as providing a rewarding experience for those who participate. Come and join us to make a difference in Oceanside this year!

To volunteer, simply complete and return the Oceanside SUN 2011 volunteer registration form/s on this website. Driving directions and parking information are included on the volunteer form.  Volunteers under 18 years old must also have a parent or legal guardian complete the Minor Volunteer Permission form. Please note that pre-registration is strongly encouraged as this assists us with project planning and volunteer assignment.
