Parks and Recreation presents “Surf’s Up” Saturday, June 20th at the Pier Amphitheater located south of the Beach Recreation Center and Oceanside Pier. Come and see this animated feature that goes behind the scenes of the high-octane world of competitive penguin surfing. The film profiles Cody Maverick, an up-and-coming surfer as he enters his first pro competition. Inspired by his hero, a legendary wave rider named Big Z, Cody leaves his family and his town of Shiver pool, Antarctica to travel to Pen Gu Island for the Big Z Memorial Surf Off. Movie starts at dark, so come early to set up your own “Movie Theater.” Bring your blankets and picnic dinners and spend your evening with family, friends and Parks and Recreation under the night sky. The City of Oceanside Parks and Recreation Division and the “Friends of Oceanside Parks” will kick off the annual summer “Sunday Concerts at Heritage Park” series on July 5. Concerts will run weekly for nine weeks throughout the summer, each Sunday afternoon from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Heritage Park, located at 220 Peyri Road (behind the Mission San Luis Rey). Each week will showcase a different style of music. Join family, friends and neighbors on Sundays, July 5, 12, 19 and 26 and August 2 & 9. This is a free, family-friendly event. The public is invited to the City of Oceanside Fireworks Show on July 3, 2015. Festivities will begin at 6:00 pm and the fireworks display at 9:00 pm. The fireworks will be staged north of El Corazon Senior Center, located at 3302 Senior Center Drive. Rancho Del Oro Road will be closed at 5:00 pm just north of Oceanside Boulevard and south of Mesa Drive. Spectators are encouraged to arrive any time after 6:00 pm, park in the nearby lots, bring a chair, and walk to the viewing area on Rancho Del Oro Road. Food trucks will be parked on Rancho Del Oro Road and will be selling a wide variety of foods.

Highland Way has been playing everything from high energy festivals to performing arts theaters, from Scotland to Nova Scotia, Ireland to California. They will be performing from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Welcome Model Trains! The North County Model Railroad Society (NCMRS) invites you to visit them in their new home at Oceanside's historic Heritage Park, located at 220 Peyri Drive, adjacent to the Mission San Luis Rey. NCMRS members will spend several months building out their extensive rail system, but you can visit a small version, on display now, each Saturday from 10:00 am - 3:00 pm. The City of Oceanside Parks and Recreation Division and the San Diego Bicycle Coalition invite you to learn skills to be a safer cyclist in Oceanside. All classes are held at the Oceanside Library Community Rooms, 300 North Coast Highway, Oceanside, CA 92054, and will be held throughout 2015. Classes run from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
