Senior Transportation Program

Oceanside’s Senior Transportation Program

“Solutions for Seniors on the Go”
, provides seniors 65 years of age and better with three transportation options to easily get to and from doctor’s appointments, pharmacies, grocery stores, and other daily outings. The three different transportation services offered through the “Solutions for Seniors on the Go” are as follows:

Taxi Scrip Purchase
Purchasing taxi scrip provides a curb-to-curb transportation option which costs the senior $7 for a ride booklet valued at $20. The senior has the option to purchase either Yellow Cab Scrip or 24-7 Cab Scrip. This program is intended for trips anywhere within North County.

Van Service
The van service costs $5 per one-way trip and is a door-to-door transportation option contracted with American Logistics Company, Inc. The service provides transportation to any location within Oceanside as well as to Camp Pendleton Naval Hospital, Scripps Encinitas, Kaiser Carlsbad, any medical facility in the Tri-City area, the Vista Transit Center, Kaiser San Marcos and Palomar San Marcos. This program is available seven days a week. Reservations are required with American Logistics anytime from one week in advance up to one day in advance. Riders are recommended to make separate reservations for return trips and should also inform the reservation coordinator about any special needs such as extra time for dialysis, a need for a wheel-chair or scooter accessible vehicle, or a vehicle with a ramp.

Volunteer Driver Services
This service is free and is a door-through-door transportation option. The free service is made possible, in part, by members of the community who have volunteered to use their own vehicle to provide rides to seniors. The ride is requested through the Transportation Coordinator and will be assigned a volunteer driver. The volunteer will then pick the senior up at his/her residence, assist them to the vehicle including the carrying of bags, drive the senior to his/her destination, provide assistance at the destination or simply wait at the doctors office, and then return the senior home – again providing assistance with bags or groceries.

Volunteer drivers are needed! To be eligible to drive you must be 18 years of age or older, have a valid driver’s license and insurance, and have a good DMV record. All volunteers are required to be fingerprinted and pass a background check prior to “working”. Volunteer drivers are provided mileage reimbursement up to 250 miles per month for providing transportation and destination assistance to seniors.

TIPS and gratuity are welcomed on taxi scrip services only. They are NOT accepted in the shuttle service or volunteer driver service. Tips and gratuities are at the discretion of the rider and are never required.
