Joe Young

Joe YoungLieutenant Joseph Young was hired by the Oceanside Police Department in June of 1989. He is currently assigned as a Watch Commander in the Field Operations Division

During his career, Lt. Young has been a canine handler, DARE Officer, School Resource Officer, and gang detective. He was promoted to the rank of sergeant in 1999 and held supervisory positions within Field Operations and Investigations. In 2003, he was promoted to the rank of lieutenant. In March of 2007, he was transferred to the Special Enforcement Section where he was tasked with managing the daily operations of the Gang, Vice and Narcotic Units.

Lt. Young is active in the community and currently serves as Board President of the countywide Trauma Intervention Program (TIP). Lt. Young has a Bachelors degree in Education and is currently seeking a Masters degree in Education through Central Michigan University. Lt. Young is a graduate of the POST Management course, POST Executive Development course, and the 225th Session of the FBI’s National Academy.
