Formed in 2002, the Oceanside Police Department Resource Team provides foot, bicycle, and vehicle patrol for the beach and downtown area. The team also serves as an additional staffing resource for problem resolution throughout the city.
During the “summer months”, the Resource Team’s primary mission is to provide seven-day coverage to the beach areas of the City. During the “off-season”, the team expands its area of responsibility to include the downtown businesses and private homes.
In addition to the sworn officers assigned to the Team, there are five Beach Security Officers assigned to work the beach area during the summer months. These Security Officers perform a variety of police support duties in a non-sworn capacity. Some of their duties include crime-prevention education, traffic-flow control and enforcement of state and local traffic regulations.
