Area Detectives, also known as East/West Detectives, are responsible for all theft and property-related crimes. They are also responsible for minor crimes against persons up to less-serious assault with a deadly weapon cases. This does not include domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse, or financial crimes. Generally, the detectives are split up to work cases that are geographically located in their area of responsibility, east or west. The areas are determined by reporting district. Districts 1 - 16 fall into the West Detectives’ area of responsibility and Districts 17 and up fall into the East Detectives’ area of responsibility.
