Robbery-Homicide Unit

Our Robbery-Homicide Unit is one of four units within the General Investigations Division. It is the newest addition to the division, as it broke ground on August 11, 2008. Assigned to Robbery-Homicide are 6 Detectives, 1 Sergeant and 1 Field Evidence Technician (FET). Listed below are the incidents investigated by this unit, which include field call-outs 24/7. While investigating homicides and other high-profile cases, we work closely with the District Attorney's office and other police agencies to ensure a thorough investigation. During incidents in which the Robbery-Homicide Unit responds, a Primary Detective, Secondary Detective and a Crime Scene Manager are assigned to work the case. The Primary Detective is the lead detective who manages the investigation, conducting interviews and delegating tasks necessary to complete the investigation. The Secondary Detective is the Primary’s support mechanism, assisting with interviews and/or other responsibilities relevant to the case. In conjunction with the FET, the Detective assigned as the Crime Scene Manager assists in recognizing and collecting evidence at the scene, attending autopsies and documenting the description of the crime scene in a report format. The Evidence Technician assigned to Robbery-Homicide coordinates all IBIS (Integrated Ballistic Identification System) input with the SDSO crime lab and also is involved in Cal-ID (fingerprint recognition) and blood spatter examination.
