Challenges ahead include the need to improve vehicle selections and fuel economy in order to offset the rising price of fuel, reduce our dependence on foreign oil and fossil fuels in general and lessen our impact on the environment. This includes employing alternate fuel vehicles and alternate fuel use strategies. A less known challenge facing the fleet operation is a shortage of technicians of equal caliber to those currently working for the city.
