Day Without a Bag Campaign Beginning in 2008, the City of Oceanside decided to follow the footsteps of some of the neighboring cities to the north, in Los Angeles, by celebrating its first “Day Without a Bag” campaign. Since then the City has celebrated three “Day Without A Bag” events on the third Thursday of December of each year, by promoting the idea that Oceanside citizens should give back to the environment during the holidays by foregoing disposable plastic and paper bags in favor of reusable totes. Due to the support of dozen’s of local business, and through the establishment of a regional partnership with neighboring cities, the City of Oceanside has distributed thousands of reusable bags to our local community. These efforts have helped establish Oceanside’s commitment towards being an environmental leader in North County San Diego. We encourage you to participate at this year’s upcoming Day Without a Bag event next December. For information on how you or your business can support the next Day Without a Bag event, please feel free to contact Colleen Foster at (760) 435-5021, or by email at cfoster@ci.oceanside.ca.us.
Green Oceanside Classroom PresentationsThe Green Oceanside team is pleased to offer key environmental educational programs to Oceanside primary and secondary aged school children. Programs include but are not limited to classroom presentations, assemblies, and hands-on activities that educate our children about waste reduction, reuse, recycling, water conservation and storm water pollution prevention. By focusing on educating our youth, children are able to establish positive habits early on in their lives that have a greater impact on the family as a whole. Please feel free to email the Green Oceanside team at greenoceanside@ci.oceanside.ca.us or call the Recycling Hotline at (760) 435-5015 for more information.
