Have you been interested in learning how to “Zero Waste” your home? How about finding ways to reduce your family’s food waste by shopping smarter, cooking better, and composting the food waste you create?
Green Oceanside has partnered with Agri Service Inc. to offer residents of Oceanside the opportunity to be part of a zero waste home/ backyard compost program. As a participant you will learn ways to implement sustainable practices into your home and everyday life. This workshop series will put your family on the path to zero waste, water efficiency, energy savings, and healthy living.

WaterSmart Landscape Contest
Log onto www.landscapecontest.com for an entry form and for helpful tips on what you’ll need. You’ll also find pictures and testimonials from past winners to see what others have done in the past and to help spark your creativity. The deadline for submissions is April 7, 2017, so don’t delay.
A winner will be selected from each participating water agency and will receive a $250 gift certificate along with recognition by the agency and a feature on the agency’s website. You can either deliver hard copies to the Water Utilities Front Counter at 300 North Coast Highway or mail to ATTN: Teresa Gomez, 300 North Coast Highway, Oceanside CA 92054 (760) 435-4500.

Being handy around the house doesn’t have to be difficult. Some common leaks found in the home are worn toilet flappers, dripping faucets, and leaking valves. Not only can the fixtures be time-consuming to find and fix, it can also get quite expensive when you add up the cost of parts, labor and wasted water.
Join us for a FREE, interactive, and informative workshop with Greg Chick, an experienced, licensed plumber from Green Plumbers USA, who will discuss everything from how to identify leaks to how to fix them. Featured topics include DIY leak detection, water awareness, and green plumbing alternatives. Questions are encouraged and pictures are even better. As a bonus we’ll have demonstrations including ‘How to locate and read your water meter’! Attendance is FREE but seating is limited. In partnership with Agri Service Inc. the Green Oceanside Team is presenting a DIY Compost Bin Workshop at Earth Festival. The workshop will be held in the Earth Festival footprint and start at 1:30 pm. Space in the workshop is limited and preregistration is required. Join community volunteers from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. to remove trash and debris from Loma Alta Creek and Oceanside beaches. Removing trash from rivers, creeks, and the ocean protects the health of humans, wildlife, and the livelihoods that depend on healthy waterways. Volunteers can choose from several sites and will receive cleanup supplies, refreshments and community service hours. Volunteers can pre-register and download waiver forms at www.CreektoBay.org.
