Green Waste Recycling / Composting
For regular green waste recycling service, each resident is provided up to two 96-gallon green waste carts for their yard waste such as grass clippings, leaves, weeds and other prunings. To order your second or an additional green waste cart (fee applies for carts beyond regular service), please call Waste Management at (760) 439-2824.
All green waste collected curbside goes to Oceanside’s El Corazon Compost Facility to be processed and composted. The compost is free to Oceanside residents. By recycling our green waste locally, the City minimizes the amount of waste and recyclable material getting transported outside of the City, therefore keeping our solid waste and recycling rates low, and our diversion and recycling rate high. The El Corazon Compost Facility is located at 3210 Oceanside Blvd., Oceanside 92056. Bring a shovel and be prepared to self-haul. For hours of operation, please call (760) 439-9920 or the City of Oceanside Recycling Hotline at (760) 435-5015.
Please help us keep our free compost clean and free of contamination by keeping trash out of the green waste recycling bin.
Compost Bin Design and Master Composter Workshops
The City of Oceanside and Agri Service, operator of the El Corazon Compost Facility, are partnering together to provide compost workshops.
Compost Bin Design Workshop: April 26 at El Corazon Senior Center
Have you considered buying a compost bin for your home, but find they are too expensive or they don't reflect your personal style? The Compost Bin Design Workshop will guide you through the process of creating a compost bin by using repurposed items from your home. Instruction and worms will be provided! Registration opens Friday, April 4, 2014. Visit www.elcorazoncompostfacility.com for registration information.
Master Compost Series
Would you like to become a Compost Ambassador to your community? The Master Composter Series is open to Oceanside residents interested in educating the community about the techniques and benefits of local and residential composting. Registration opens Friday, April 1, for the May series. Visit www.elcorazoncompostfacility.com for registration information.
"Since the adoption of our City’s Zero Waste resolution, these workshops, as supported by Agri Service, have been lauded by the community as an excellent way to encourage active engagement and awareness by our local community, further helping residents understand that sustainability practices start at home", said Colleen Foster, City of Oceanside Solid Waste and Recycling Management Analyst. Composting food scraps is a critical step toward meeting Oceanside’s zero-waste goals and an enhancement of Oceanside’s award winning organics recycling program.
