Recycling Mandate & Ordinance

Recycling Makes Sense...and It's the Law!

Due to residents doing his or her part, we are proud to announce that the City of Oceanside has achieved a 67% Diversion/Recycling rate! According to the California Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery, CalRecycle’s new measurement system, Oceanside residents produce approximately 4 lbs of trash per person/per day.  This is significantly below the State maximum daily allowance of 6.3 lbs of trash per person/per day. Remember, waste reduction is the first step of the Reduce, Reuse, Recycle hierarchy.  For more information about CalRecycle, and California’s waste reduction, reuse and recycling programs and services, please visit

Congratulations -- your daily routine is helping extend the life of our landfills, save precious and limited natural resources, and enjoy a healthier environment!

Recently, the City of Oceanside has adopted Zero Waste as a goal in order to eliminate waste and pollution in the manufacture, use, storage, and recycling of materials.  By 2020, we anticipate a 75% diversion rate, and your help is needed in order to achieve this goal.
