Oceanside Police Investigate Apparent Murder-Suicide

On September 19, 2011 at approximately 4:00 p.m. Police were dispatched to a home in the 300 block of Via Metates to check on the welfare of the 56-year-old-male resident. Officers found the man and a 52-year-old female deceased in the residence. Based on preliminary findings, it appears as though this incident is a murder-suicide.

Today at 3:58 p.m. Officers were dispatched to an address in the 300 block of Via Metates to check on the welfare of a man who failed to show up for his scheduled medical appointments. The reporting party was a staff member from the medical facility. Officers entered the unsecured residence and found a deceased male and a deceased female in separate bedrooms; both appeared to have sustained gunshot wounds. A deceased dog was also found in the room with the male; the dog also appeared to have been shot. The weapon located on scene was a handgun; the handgun was in the room with the male.

The investigation is ongoing. The names of the deceased and their relationship with each other is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
