Oceanside Police Investigate Apparent Murder-Suicide - Update

The names of the deceased male and female found in the home in the 300 block of Via Metates are being released. The male has been identified as 56-year-old Robert Bradford, and the deceased female has been identified as his 52-year-old sister Shelly Bradford. Both resided at the Via Metates address.

On September 19, 2011 at 3:58 p.m. Officers were dispatched to an address in the 300 block of Via Metates to check on the welfare of a man who failed to show up for his scheduled medical appointments. The reporting party was a staff member from the medical facility. Officers entered the unsecured residence and found a deceased male and a deceased female in separate bedrooms; both appeared to have sustained gunshot wounds. A deceased dog was also found in the room with the male; the dog, a yellow Labrador Retriever, also appeared to have been shot. The weapon located on scene was a handgun; the handgun was in the room with the male.

Based on preliminary findings, it appears as though this incident was a murder-suicide.

The investigation is ongoing.
