The Nigerian Brothers in Concert at the Oceanside Public Library

September 28, 2011

The Oceanside Public Library and the Friends of the Oceanside Public Library are proud to present The Nigerian Brothers as part of the 2011 World Music Series.  This concert will be held on Saturday, October 15, 2011, in the Civic Center Library Community Rooms located at 330 N. Coast Highway.  Performance time will be 7:30 p.m.  Free parking is available in the Civic Center parking garage.

Nigerian master musician Babá Ken Okulolo and his brothers are among the few top contemporary Nigerian musicians with deep roots in African folk and highlife music.  As the Nigerian Brothers, they put together their memories of traditional West African folk music, 'palm-wine' tunes, and highlife songs, bringing them to life with their harmonious voices, African guitar styling, and hand percussion instruments.  Together, they recreate the sweet, lilting sounds of their earliest village memories. This gentle but rhythmic music is a special treat for those who seek an authentic African sound.

Tickets for the performance are $15.00 for all ages and are available at the Oceanside Civic Center Library and Mission Branch Library customer service desks.  Doors open at 7:00 p.m. and it is open seating.    For more information on Library programs and services, please call (760) 435-5600 during regular business hours.   To learn more about The Nigerian Brothers, please visit their website at http://www.africanmusicsource.com/west_african_highlife_band/.
