The public is invited to meet author Cathy Worthington at the Oceanside Public Library Foundation Room, 330 N. Coast Highway, on Saturday, March 10, at 1:00 p.m. Cathy Worthington is the author of the book Moskovsky Station, winner of a San Diego Book Award. The novel follows the journey of an eleven-year-old American child who travels to St. Petersburg, Russia, with her Russian-born mother and ends up living alone in a train station among Russia's homeless children. Inspiration for Moskovsky Station came in 2006 when, just prior to a trip to Russia, Worthington happened upon the television airing of a documentary entitled The Children of Leningradsky. The plight of the homeless children depicted in this Academy Award-nominated film so moved her that Worthington felt compelled to write their story. Though Moskovsky Station is a work of pure fiction, many of the details that make the story come alive were derived from the film.
Cathy Worthington's visit to the Oceanside Public Library will include a discussion of her book, as well as a question-and-answer session. A book signing will be held after the event. The event is free and sponsored by the Friends of the Oceanside Public Library. For more information, please visit the Library’s website at www.oceansidepubliclibrary.org or call (760) 435-5560.
