Spanish Guitar Concert at the Library

March 19, 2012

The Oceanside Public Library and the Friends of the Oceanside Public Library are proud to present Spanish Guitar Maestro David Maldonado as the opening performance of the 2012 World Music Series.  This free concert will be held on Saturday, April 7, 2012, in the Civic Center Library Community Rooms located at 330 N. Coast Highway.  Performance time will be 2:00 p.m.  Free parking is available in the Civic Center parking garage.

Take a musical journey through Spain, Latin America, and beyond exploring the romance, emotion, and the passion of the Spanish Guitar. Reflecting the new generation of Spanish composers, guitar maestro David Maldonado's solo guitar concert features original Spanish compositions and re-worked pieces dating back to the early 1900s by legendary composers Geronimo Jimenez, Sabicas (Godfather of Flamenco), Albeniz, and even selections by Augustin Barrios.

David Maldonado was born in Mexico and brought up in the tradition of the guitar. He was a selected student of the Royal Family of the Guitar as knighted by the King of Spain, "Los Romeros."  David has released six albums worldwide and has performed concerts globally, from Paris to Tokyo.  No other guitarist can claim his mastery of so many styles of Spanish guitar within the same show; flamenco, classical, and modern, including difficult styles of rasqueado (a precise rapid strumming pattern using all the fingers of the right hand) and picados (extremely fast guitar scales).

Doors for this free performance open at 1:30 p.m. and it is open seating.  For more information on Library programs and services, please call (760) 435-5600 during regular business hours, or visit www.oceansidepubliclibrary.org.
