FREE Oceanside Green Week Celebration

April 11, 2012

The City of Oceanside invites you to Green Week 2012, the 4th Annual Environmental Celebration coordinated by the Green Oceanside campaign.  From April 23 through April 29, City departments and local organizations that partner together to create a Green Oceanside community will host an exciting variety of activities and events that will show North County residents how they can make a difference for our planet and communities.  All of the Green Week events are FREE and FUN for all ages.

An Environmental Film Festival will take place Thursday, April 26, from 6pm–9pm at the historic Sunshine Brooks Theater, 217 N. Coast Highway, Oceanside.  Admission is free.  Two interesting and inspiring films will be shown:  "Flow", which highlights the world's dwindling fresh water supply with a focus on politics, pollution, and human rights issues, and “The Story of Stuff”, which is a short film about how our consumer goods are produced, consumed and disposed of or recycled.

Two free Composting Workshops will be held during Green Week: April 24 from 6:30pm–8pm and April 28 from 12pm–2pm.  The workshops are open to all North County residents.  Discounted composting bins will be available for Oceanside residents.  Space is limited so please R.S.V.P.

On Saturday, April 28, from 9am–12pm is the 12th Annual Loma Alta Creek Cleanup.  Cleanup sites are along Loma Alta Creek, on the coast at Buccaneer Beach, and on the south side of the Oceanside Pier.  Register at www.creektobay.org.  Support will be provided by Waste Management of North County.

Green Fair at the Beach, North County's largest Earth Day Celebration event will be held Saturday, April 28 at the Oceanside Pier Amphitheater from 11am–4pm.  There is no admission charge and the fair will be packed full of fun family-friendly activities!  You can also visit booths that highlight local environmental causes, electric vehicles, and green builders.  Participate in a craft booth for children and attend the Green Oceanside Youth Art Contest Awards Ceremony at 3pm.  Visit fabulous food vendors and listen to a variety of live music by fantastic local musicians.

A free E-waste Drop-off will take place April 28 from 11am–4pm.  Bring your electronics for recycling free of charge at Oceanside Parking Lot 24 at the corner of Mission Avenue and Myers Street.  Visit the Green Oceanside Website for a list of accepted items.

A free Used Oil Filter Exchange event will take place on Sunday, April 29, from 10am–2pm at O'Reilly Auto Parts 502 Oceanside Blvd.  Oceanside residents are eligible to receive up to three FREE oil filters, receiving one new oil filter for each used oil filter they recycle at the event.
