11th Annual Oceanside Filipino Cultural Celebration

The colorful sights, sounds and delicious smells of the Philippines will once again fill the Civic Center Plaza in Oceanside. The Filipino-American Cultural Association of North San Diego County along with the Oceanside Public Library and the Friends of the Library invite you to enjoy a festive day of music, dance, food and much more at the 11th Annual Filipino Cultural Celebration on Saturday, June 9, from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Oceanside Civic Center Library and Plaza at 330 North Coast Highway.
The theme of this year's celebration is "Celebrate Our Youth, Leaders of Tomorrow." The event will kick-off at 10 a.m., and will be followed by a traditional costume show, highlighting beautiful clothing from the different regions of the Philippine Islands. From 11:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m., contestants will vie for the Mrs. Fil-Am Senior crown. A talent showcase will follow featuring local artists on the Plaza stage. At noon, children and parents can enjoy Filipino stories and folklore at storytime in the Patio Courtyard.
In the afternoon, local dancers will perform Filipino dances from the different provinces of the Philippines. In addition, you won’t want to miss the beautiful and talented contestants competing in pageants for the titles of Little Miss Fil-Am and Miss Pre-Teen Fil-Am. The event wraps-up with a scholarship presentation.
Traditional Filipino food such as pancit, lumpia, and adobo, as well as other items, will be available for sale in the plaza area from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Children are invited into the courtyard throughout the day for a free craft program. Parents and grandparents are welcome to join in the fun. Don’t forget to check out the many books and materials on Filipino culture available at the Library. The Filipino-American Cultural Association of North San Diego County was formed and established in June of 1976. It began as a social gathering of some whose mission was to preserve the Filipino cultural customs and traditions, and is now over 300 members strong.
