On July 17, 2012, Oceanside Police received a call of a suspicious person in the 3800 block of Vista Campana South in Oceanside. Police responded and contacted 30-year-old Vista resident Toya Calderon. During the initial investigation, officers located several items of jewelry inside of Calderon's vehicle that she could not account for. Calderon was subsequently arrested for possession of stolen property and booked into the Vista Detention Facility. Calderon posted bond and has been out of custody until today.
Oceanside Police conducted a lengthy follow-up investigation which connected Calderon to four residential burglaries within the city. On July 18, 2012, police served a search warrant on Calderon’s residence in the 200 block of Grapevine Street in Vista. Additional items suspected of being stolen were confiscated from her residence. Police believe Calderon may have been targeting the elderly when choosing locations to burglarize. Anyone who believes they may have been victims of a burglary living in the Oceana, Costa Serena, Temple Heights and Peacock Hills neighborhoods are encouraged to contact Detective Karla Williams at (760) 435-4771.
On July 25, 2012, Calderon was arraigned in Vista Superior Court for possession of stolen property and four counts of residential burglary. Calderon is currently being held in the Vista Detention Facility on $150,000 bail.
