Friends of Oceanside Parks Hosts Free Concert at RDO Park
August 7, 2012
The Friends of Oceanside Parks and the City of Oceanside Parks and Recreation Division are pleased to announce their last free Friday Evening Concert in the Park at Rancho Del Oro Park, 4701 Mesa Drive (adjacent to the Mottino Family Y), on Friday, August 17, from 5:00–8:00 p.m. The Pre-show will consist of the "The Star Kids" and the “Starlets” from the Star Theater in Oceanside. The headliner will be the rock and roll band “Not Fade Away”.
This is a musical tribute to the 50s and early 60s that will bring you back to a simpler time, a time of optimism and the youthful exuberance of a burgeoning movement called “Rock n' Roll”! This concert will feature songs from the founding fathers of the genre to the British invasion and Motown, from Buddy Holly to the Beatles. “Not Fade Away” will take you on a rockin’ revival that will make you dance in the aisles and cheer for more!
The music of the 50s and 60s serves as the foundation that virtually all modern popular music is, was, and will be built upon. The songs from recording giants like Elvis Presley, the Everly Brothers, Sam Cooke, Little Richard, Jerry Lee Lewis, the Rolling Stones and many more will never be forgotten. These sounds will instantly transport you to a time when boppers wore bobby socks and blue suede shoes and danced their nights away at the Hop. Put on your leather jackets and let your mop tops grow because “Not Fade Away” is going to take you back in a musical time machine!
“Not Fade Away” members are David Schulz, Greg Burman, Davitt Felder, Peter Waldman and Corey Watkins.
Bring a blanket or beach chair to enjoy this fun, family-friendly event; food vendors will be selling refreshments. For more information, contact Recreation Admin at (760) 435-5041.
