December 21, 2012
61-year-old Alex Paul Rodriquez was arrested this morning for making a threatening phone call to staff at Laurel Elementary School yesterday morning. Police believe Rodriguez is the man who left a message on the school's voicemail at 4:15 a.m. stating there would be a shooting at 11:00 a.m. yesterday. The call resulted in a school lock down and a police presence at the school for the remainder of the day.
The threatening phone message was reportedly made at approximately 4:15 a.m. yesterday. The caller ended the message with what is being described as maniacal laughter. Oceanside Investigators were able to trace the call back to a cell phone owned by Rodriguez. Police contacted Rodriguez at his home in the 1800 block of College Blvd where he resides with his wife. He was subsequently arrested for making the threatening call. Police found no evidence in his home that suggested Rodriguez intended to carry out the threat; no firearms were located. The motive for the threat has not been established. Rodriguez will be booked into the Vista Detention Facility for making a Penal Code 422 (terrorist threats).
