Oceanside Police Investigate Gang-Related Attempted Murder

On January 1, 2013 at approximately 11:33 p.m. in the 400 block of Grant Street a man was shot in an apparent gang related incident. He was transported to a trauma center where he is expected to recover from his injuries. A 16-year-old juvenile male was taken into custody for the crime and was transported to Juvenile Hall. The name of the victim has not been released at this time.
On January 1, 2013 Police were dispatched to the apartment complex at 415 Grant Street to investigate the report of a shooting. The 20-year-old victim was found unresponsive lying on the ground in a common area of the apartment complex. He was transported to a trauma center for treatment, and is expected to recover from his injuries. The victim is a documented gang member.
Officers saw a group juveniles running from the scene when they arrived. One 16-year-old juvenile was subsequently detained and arrested for the shooting. The suspect is known to Police as a gang affiliate. He was arrested for attempted murder (P.C. 664/187) and participation in a criminal street gang (P.C. 186.22).
The victim was reportedly visiting his aunt who resides in the apartment complex at 415 Grant. At approximately 11:33 p.m., he approached a group of males standing near an apartment gate at the perimeter of the complex. Witnesses heard gunshots and saw the victim running back into the complex, where he collapsed. The motive for the shooting has not been determined, and the investigation is ongoing to determine if more suspects are involved.
