Culture Through Literature Series
January 17, 2013
Chinese New Year is upon us, a reminder of the wealth of Chinese culture to be explored, and Professor Aubrey Kuan Roderick is just the person to introduce the fascinating tradition of Chinese storytelling. She will present an intriguing and informative program on this topic at the Oceanside Public Library, Civic Center, on Saturday, January 26, 2013, at 10:30 a.m., in the Foundation Room on the 2nd floor, 330 North Coast Highway, Oceanside. One of the most compelling ways to appreciate one's own heritage and that of others is by understanding works of fiction and non-fiction. The Culture through Literature series features scholars, writers, and storytellers who intimately know the literature and customs of specific cultures and share it through lectures, readings, and poetry.
Aubrey Kuan Roderick, currently Interim Coordinator for School Diversity and Outreach at MiraCosta College, coordinates the college’s annual Chinese New Year festival that draws hundreds. Kuan Roderick also teaches Chinese language classes, a Chinese internship course, and is the primary contact for international students, something that Kuan Roderick finds rewarding since she was an international student when she first came to the United States from Taiwan.
