The Oceanside Police Department is partnering with the San Diego Sheriff’s Department and other local law enforcement agencies in hosting a Guns for Gift Cards event in the North County. The event will be held at the San Marcos Sheriff’s Station, 182 Santar Place, San Marcos on Saturday, May 18th from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
If you have an unwanted gun, you can turn it in and get a gift card in return, no questions asked. $50 gift cards will be given in exchange for shotguns, handguns and rifles. $150 gift cards will be given in exchange for assault weapons. There is a limit of $150 in gift cards per vehicle. The gift cards can be redeemed at area Walmart stores. Anyone wishing to participate should place their unloaded firearms in the trunk of their cars. A uniformed deputy or officer will give instructions at the location. All weapons collected will be destroyed.
Partnering agencies include the District Attorney's Office, Escondido Police Department, Carlsbad Police Department and the Palomar College Police Department.
