The Oceanside community was invited to participate in an online vote to select Official City Trees—one native/naturalized and one ornamental species. Garnering 42% of votes cast, the native/naturalized tree chosen is the Coast Live Oak, and the selected ornamental variety is the Gold Medallion Tree with 33% of votes cast.
Thank you to all who participated in the selection of the Official City Trees. At the City’s 125th Anniversary celebration on July 3, 2013, the two Official City Trees will be formally announced, and a sample of each tree will be presented to the public. At an upcoming meeting, an Official City Tree proclamation will be made by the City Council, and an Arbor Day celebration will be held by planting the trees in a City park.
The City of Oceanside has been officially designated by the Arbor Day Foundation as a Tree City since 2008, and is committed to creating a healthier community through education and awareness of our healthy and vibrant urban forest.
