The newly built Alex Road Skatepark located on the corner of Foussat and Alex Road, just west of the drive-in movie theater, will officially open on Friday, August 30, 2013, with a grand opening event from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., refreshments will be provided.
The 22,700-square-foot concrete skatepark has been designed to include transition features such as “bowls”, “snake runs”, and a “street” area featuring banks, rails and ledges. The design also includes viewing areas to accommodate spectators, fencing treatments, and a biological buffer area between the skatepark and the San Luis Rey River Trail. The Alex Road Skatepark will not be staffed and will be open to the public daily (following the grand opening event) during daylight hours for skateboarding only. No scooters, bikes or other equipment will be permitted. Safety gear is required for use of the park.
The park was built by the California Skateparks Inc., a multi-disciplinary company specializing in the design and build of public and private concrete skate parks, plazas, skate spots and progressive recreational facilities. As a world-class skate park designer and skatepark builder, the team at California Skateparks Inc. has worked on numerous projects internationally, including over 200 public skate parks in the United States.
The development of the Alex Road Skatepark is anticipated to significantly reduce the user levels at the Martin Luther King Jr. and Melba Bishop Parks skate spots. The Alex Road Skatepark will provide a complete skateboarding venue for all residents and complete a major milestone in the planned skatepark system for the City of Oceanside.
