Film Noir Series Celebrates Big Read

The Oceanside Public Library continues its Big Read Celebration of The Maltese Falcon by Dashiell Hammett with a film noir series. Join us at the Oceanside Public Library to watch classic film noirs. Staff will show four films that are cornerstones of the genre, as well as starring some of Hollywood’s greatest legends like Humphrey Bogart, Lauren Bacall, William Holden, Gloria Swanson, Gene Tierney, Dana Andrews, Dick Powell, and Claire Trevor. The Big Read is a program of the National Endowment for the Arts, designed to revitalize the role of literature in American culture and to encourage citizens to read for pleasure and enlightenment. The Big Read is managed by Arts Midwest. Oceanside is one of 77 communities nationwide participating in The Big Read from September 2013-June 2014. From February 1 through March 1, the Oceanside community will celebrate The Maltese Falcon by Dashiell Hammett with a full calendar of events including film screenings, book discussions, and author events.
