Pedestrian Dies in Vehicle Collision

Oceanside, CA – On Wednesday February 26, 2014, at 1842 hours, the Oceanside Police Department responded to calls of a serious injury collision involving a vehicle and pedestrian on Cassidy Street on the I-5 overpass. Upon arrival, officers located a male lying in the westbound lanes of Cassidy Street on the overpass. Based on witness statements and physical evidence at the scene, it appears that the male was walking eastbound in the middle of the roadway. As oncoming traffic approached the male walked into the westbound lane and was struck by an SUV. The pedestrian was transported to Tri-City Medical Center and succumbed to his injuries. The motorist was not injured. Alcohol and speed are not believed to be a factor in this collision. The driver is not facing any charges at this point. The name of the deceased has not been released pending family notification.
