Police Arrest Robbery Suspect
August 27, 2011
Since June 5, 2011 there have been four (4) armed robberies at hotels in Oceanside and another two in Carlsbad. Witnesses in each case provided similar descriptions of the suspect. The most recent robbery occurred on August 24 during which the suspect was seen fleeing in an early model black Ford Mustang.
At about 12:51 am today, Oceanside Police Officer Larry Weber conducted a traffic stop on a black Ford Mustang in the area of College Boulevard and Oceanside Boulevard. The driver matched the description of the robbery series suspect. A search of the vehicle revealed evidence connecting the driver to the robberies. The driver was identified as 23-year-old Oceanside resident Franklin Gladney.
A search warrant was served this morning at Gladney’s residence by detectives from the Oceanside and Carlsbad Police Departments. Additional evidence was located linking Gladney to the robbery series. Gladney was subsequently booked into the Vista Detention Facility on multiple charges, including robbery, burglary, and other offenses.
This was an excellent observation on the part of Officer Larry Weber and a great collaborative effort on the part of crime analysts, officers and detectives from the Oceanside and Carlsbad Police Departments.
