Temporary San Luis Rey River Bike Trail Closures -The United States Army Corps of Engineers has implemented a series of closures to the SLR Bike Trail/Maintenance Road in order to perform habitat restoration activities in the flood risk management channel. The trail will be closed from Benet Road South to Interstate 5, Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. for the following weeks:

  • October 7-11
  • October 21-25
  • November 4-8
  • November 18-22
  • December 2-6

Parks and Recreation Fall and Winter Activity Guide is here! Click the link to peruse the many recreational and learning opportunities available.

Parks and Recreation - Heritage Park Fall Festival - November 9, 2013 from 12:00 - 4:00 p.m.  Join the Friends of Oceanside Parks, and the Parks and Recreation Division to celebrate Fall at Heritage Park, located at 220 Peyri Road. Event will feature children’s games, chili cook-off, music and entertainment.  Admission is free.

Alex Road Skatepark Now Open - Located adjacent to the San Luis Rey River Trail on Alex Road and Foussat, this urban street-inspired skatepark is truly impressive, offering a challenging course suitable for most levels.  This park offers a healthy way for people to recreate and explore the ever-popular sport of skateboarding. Oceanside's Skateparks

Oceanside Public Library Events:

America's Music Series - Music afficiandoes unite!  Tuesday nights at 6:00 p.m. from October 8 - November 12 in the Civic Center Library Community Rooms at 330 North Coast Highway.  A free dynamic six-week program series featuring documentary film screenings and discussions about uniquely American musical genres. 

Paws to Read - Children grades 2-5 are invited to read aloud to a certified therapy dog at the library.  Children who have participated have improved their fluency and reading skills.

North Oceanside Double Track Project - Informational public meeting Wednesday, October 9 at 6:00 p.m. at Oceanside High School -  San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG) and North County Transit District (NCTD) will host an informational meeting to learn more about a future rail improvement project in Oceanside.

Senior Expo 2013 The Senior Expo will highlight products and services available to our senior community.  The Oceanside Chamber of Commerce is hosting this important community tradition in providing access to valuable resources, products, and activities geared toward seniors. Don't miss it!  Free admission:  Thursday, October 10, 2013 from 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. at Oceanside Civic Center, 300 N. Coast Highway.

Bike the Coast - Taste the CoastNovember 2, 2013 -This bike ride starts and finishishes with food, fun and music at the Oceanside Pier. The cycling courses include the San Luis Rey Bike Trail and the North County beaches of Oceanside, Carlsbad, Encinitas, Solana Beach and Del Mar. Situated at the finish line of the ride, the Taste the Coast Festival and Expo is on The Strand next to the pier. Taste the Coast offers a wide range of food booths, live music, sporting booths, and a beer garden.

LIFE Lecture Series at MiraCosta College -Organized for the seniors of North San Diego County, this series of lectures offers a wide array of topics for everyone.  The lectures take place at the Oceanside campus most Friday afternoons from 1:00 - 3:30 p.m.  The series offers interesting speakers, lively discussions, field trips, and more.  LIFE provides a means for people to share their knowledge, exchange ideas and pursue their interests through lifelong learning.

Big Wednesday Series at the California Surf Museum featuring "Nacho"-Join legendary surfer Ignatio "Nacho" Felix Cota as he discusses his book, "Tribe of the Waves" on Wednesday, October 9 at 6:30 p.m.  "Tribe of the Waves" is a real life story full of adventure, challenge, and a passion for the sea.  Free for CSM members, $5 for prospective members. The California Surf Museum is located at 312 Pier View Way.  RSVP at (760) 721-6876

Oceanside's ProKids Golf Course and Learning Center Honored for Design Excellence-The American Society of Golf Course Architects (ASGCA) has honored Oceanside's ProKids Course and Learning Center at their recent awards.  The course is among only 12 in the country cited for illustrating the value in courses addressing unique design challenges leading to improved social, economic and environmental benefits. Congratulations! PROKIDS
