Economic Development News - Oceanside has a dynamic business climate with new restaurants, retail shops, breweries, and manufacturing businesses moving into the City.  The City's Economic Development department assists businesses with expansion and relocation to Oceanside by offering site searches, business visits, demographic and statistical information, and assistance with permit processing and business license issuance.  Check the link above for the latest hot news.







Free Concerts in the Park - Don't feel thwarted by the high cost of concert tickets; the offerings are ripe at the free Summer Concert series sponsored by Parks and Recreation and the Friends of Oceanside Parks.  Bring your blanket or beach chair and a picnic...or enjoy on-site selections.





Oceanside Day at a Padres Game - Sunday, July 20 at 1:10 p.m. - Oceanside residents will be invited to line up on the field along the baselines before the first pitch as the Padres take on the Mets at Petco Park.  This event is being sponsored by the Friends of Oceanside Parks, and discounted tickets are available at the Junior Seau Beach Community Center.  Cash or check payable to "Friends of Oceanside Parks."  Oceanside seats are reserved in the lower right field.

Green Oceanside - Through collaboration and partnerships between City departments, local businesses, schools, and residents, Green Oceanside provides an avenue for people to learn how to actively protect the environment through community involvement and engagement.  See links below on various topics you can use throughout the summer.








Fire Prevention Tips -  Wildfire is a serious threat to all Californians.  Now is the time to protect your family and property from wildfire. You can dramatically increase your safety and the survivability of your property by preparing in advance of any fire. If you live near a natural area,  create a 100' buffer from fire by removing weeds, brush and vegetation.  Please see links below to tips on keeping your family and home safe.







Oceanside Fire Department Wins Award for Excellence The American Heart Association has awarded the department the 2014 Mission: Lifeline EMS Silver Level Recognition Award.  This award recognizes Oceanside Fire's commitment and success in implementing specific quality improvement measures for the treatment of patients who suffer a severe heart attack known as a STEMI (ST Elevation Myocardial Infarction).  Agencies that receive the Mission: Lifeline Silver award have demonstrated at least 75 percent compliance for each required achievement measure for the entire year, and treat at least eight STEMI patients for the year.  Congratulations, Oceanside Fire Department!






Disaster Preparedness Survey - This year, the San Diego region’s 18 city governments, the county and several fire protection and water districts are working together to update the region’s plan for mitigating the impact of potential disasters. You are invited to participate in the survey through June 30.  With only 18 questions, the survey will help gauge residents’ level of disaster preparedness and awareness and help local governments set priorities for addressing potential disasters before they happen.  More info

Arts and Culture - The Arts are alive in Oceanside, and there's something for every member of the family!  The Filipino American Cultural Celebration, the Oceanside International Film Festival, and the Oceanside Museum of Art Ball are all happening this summer.  See link above for details.  Dive in and experience the best of Oceanside's arts and culture scene and make it a night to remember. 








Parks and Recreation - Discover all of the exciting summer programs:

  • Jump into fun and beat the summer heat Visit the Swim Centers for family recreation swim.  Drop-in prices are as low as $1.  Schedule  
  • Summer Camps - These begin Monday, June 9.  Exciting sports camps, day camps, and specialty camps are offered, like the all-new SD Skatelife Camp offered at three different skate park locations. 
  • Youth Sea Fishing Trip  - 2 outings to choose from.  $35 for Oceanside residents; $45 non-residents. Register early! 
  • Children's Learn to Swim Classes - Begin Monday, June 9. Spots fill quickly.  Check out little Kimberly Roswell learning (photo left).
  • Summer Activity Guide - Classes, camps, leagues, and drop in play times--all in one place.  Everything from ballet to pickleball and much, much more!
  • 2nd Annual Daddy Daughter Dance - Friday, June 13 from 5-8 p.m.  Call for tickets at 760-435-5534. 
  • Family Movies - Enjoy a free flick under the stars with family, friends and fun.








Mission Avenue Improvement Project Update -  Project work rolls forward!  Last week, the remaining sidewalk removal and replacement work began from Clementine to Ditmar.  Storm drain installation continued from Ditmar to Coast Highway.  The signal foundation and asphalt paving on the northwest corner of Coast Highway and Mission Avenue was completed.  This week (June 2-6), the remaining intersection work (sidewalk) on the northwest corner of Coast Highway and Mission will be completed.  Storm drain installation from Ditmar and Coast Highway will be completed and rough grading and electrical conduit work will begin.  Landscaping will cintinue on the north side of Mission Avenue from Clementine to Ditmar.  Pedestrian access to businesses will remain open at all times.  More information







Library EventsWith the school year coming to an end, keep your student busy with the many events and opportunities your library provides.  The library is seeking teen volunteers who can gain great experience helping out, staying cool, and making new friends.  Adult and childrens' summer reading programs are gearing up with a plethora of fun and interesting happenings. Stop in and grab your summer reading list and download e-books, too!  Check the link above for more information and the Summer Reading Kick Off flyer and June Event flyer.







North County Model Railroad Museum Finds New Home - The club has recently moved to a new location at Heritage Park!  The model trains are a great fit for the park, which features a collection of historical buildings.  While the main model railroad is being constructed, there is an area called "Trains for Kids" available to see and interact with--FREE--on Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.  Location

20th Annual Independence Day Parade - Saturday, June 28, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. - Show your pride, Oceanside!  Join in on the parade as it travels north on Coast Highway from Wisconsin (in front of the 101 Cafe) to Civic Center Drive.  There'll be floats, marching bands, equestrian units, cool cars and more!  Running time from beginning to end is about 2 hours.  Viewing available from sidewalks lining the route, bring a chair!  Sponsored by MainStreet Oceanside.  Parking info 







Fireworks Display July 3 from 6:00 - 10:00 p.m.  The fireworks will be ignited just north of the El Corazon Senior Center at 3302 Senior Center Drive.  Rancho Del Oro Drive will be closed from Seagate to Ocean Ranch Boulevard.  This is the recommended viewing site.  No parking will be available at the Senior Center but limited parking will be available at Ocean Ranch Business Park.  Arrive anytime after 6:00 p.m. and bring a beach chair.  Food trucks will be available on Rancho Del Oro Drive.  Enjoy the El Camino and Oceanside High School bands play from 8:00 - 9:00 p.m. 








Yarn Bomb O'side - A community art project, Yarn Bomb O'side calls all knitters, crocheters, and macramers to submit yarn squares of any size from now until July 28 to be included in the mass yarn bombing of Artist Alley for the first official Arts Walk on Friday, August 1.  See link above for all the colorful, fuzzy details.

Vector Control in Oceanside - In order to better protect communities, the County's Vector Control Program conducts aerial applications of mosquito larvicides to mosquito breeding habitats that are too large or too sensitive to be treated by hand. These treatments occur every 3–4 weeks by helicopter during the mosquito breeding season, typically between April and October.  The larvicide is made from bacteria that only affect mosquito larvae. The bacteria kill the larvae before they can develop into biting adults.  Aerial map of locations

18th Annual Inter-Tribal Powwow - June 14-15  Hosted by the San Luis Rey Luiseno Mission Indians at the Mission San Luis Rey in Oceanside, this event draws tribal members from all over the United States for contest dancing, Native American arts and crafts, games and food.  Schedule of events
