                   Oceanside is 125!  The City of Oceanside is celebrating its 125th year of incorporation on July 3, 2013!  A series of special events hosted by the Oceanside Chamber of Commerce and the City will commemorate this occasion.  At 11 a.m. on July 3 at Civic Center Plaza, there will be musical entertainment, speeches, proclamations, and cake!  Save the date and be a part of Oceanside's historical celebration.  Other events not to miss:
  • Annual Freedom Days Parade - June 29 at 10:00 a.m. on Coast Highway from Oceanside Blvd. to Civic Center Drive, hosted by Mainstreet Oceanside.  Themed, "Oceanside - Past, Present, and Future".

  • Free Concert and Movie - June 29 at 5:00 p.m. concert featuring the First Marine Division Band and 8:00 p.m. movie, "Bring It On", at Junior Seau Pier Ampitheater. Call (760) 435-5041 or visit www.oceansiderec.com for details.

  • 125th Anniversary Fireworks Display - July 3 at 9:00 p.m. at El Corazon, located at Rancho Del Oro Drive and Oceanside Boulevard.  The El Corazon property will NOT be open to the public.  However, due to the location of El Corazon, it is anticipated that the fireworks can be viewed at a variety of locales throughout the City.  A small section of Rancho Del Oro Road, between Ocean Ranch Blvd. and Seagate Way, will be closed from 6:00 - 10:00 p.m.  Limited parking available at Ocean Ranch Corporate Center, carpools are encouraged.  Oceanside and El Camino High School Bands will perform from 8:00-9:00   p.m. Food vendors will be available.  Bring a beach chair!

  • Star Spangled Sunset Market - July 4 from 2:00 - 9:30 p.m. at the corner of Pier View and S. Tremont in downtown Oceanside. 

The Oceanside Chamber of Commerce is commemorating this auspicious anniversary by publishing a beautiful 100-page magazine titled, Oceanside, California:  Celebrating 125 Years.  Filled with historical photos and information, your free copy can be picked up at the Chamber Office, at MainStreet Oceanside, or at the weekly Farmers Markets.

Oceanside Beach Water Quality Receives "A " Grades - The City of Oceanside strives to keep ocean water healthy to protect people and marine life.  Heal the Bay, a non-profit organization from the Los Angles area routinely analyzes water up and down the coast and grades beaches based on the water quality data.  Oceanside is proud to report "A" grades in the Heal the Bay Beach Report Card.  READ MORE  


 

 Filipino Cultural Celebration

       

                   

                         

                 

12th Annual Filipino Cultural Celebration - The colorful sights, sounds and delicious smells of the Philippines will once again fill the Civic Center Plaza in Oceanside.  Join in on Saturday, June 8 from 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. at Oceanside's Civic Center Plaza to enjoy a festive day of music, dance, art, and traditional Filipino food!  The Filipino-American Cultural Association of North San Diego County, along with the Oceanside Public Library and the Friends of the Library will host this free celebration which highlights rich Filipino cultural traditions. 


City of Oceanside- Summer Camp 

                         

Summer Camps -   Explore, create, discover, grow... 2013 Summer Sessions are almost here!  Camps begin June 17 and the offerings are wide-ranging to appeal to every child, including sea animal camp, surf camp, sports camps, summer fun & sun, pirates, travel skate camp, and MORE!

Teen and Adult Summer Sports Leagues  also offered!

Heritage Park Concerts 

                        

Summer Concert Series at 2 Locations!

Concerts in Rancho del Oro Park:  The City of Oceanside Neighborhood Services Department, along with Friends of Oceanside Parks provide a variety of free musical performances with the sunset as your backdrop!  Bring a picnic dinner or buy some there, and enjoy the surf-sounds of the The Surfaris on Friday, June 21 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m at Rancho Del Oro Park.  MAP  

The Mar Dels will be rocking the scene on Friday, July 19 from 6:00 - 8:00 pm  If you like Elvis, Van Morrison,  Frank Sinatra, and The Stones, you won't want to miss this free concert! 

Sundays at Heritage Park:  A fun line up with a great variety of bands to appeal to everyone, taking the stage on Sundays beginning June 23 at Heritage Park from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m.  MAP   See who's playing and when HERE

 


 

 Summer Reading 

 

Summer Library Programs - Children can earn prizes for reading this summer in the "Dig into Reading" program at the library, which begins June 13.  Call (760) 435-5600 for details or VISIT.

The Teen Summer Reading Program, Read for a Reason, donates $1 for every book read to the North County Community Food Bank.  READ MORE

The Library is proud to be hosting the 6th Annual Adult Summer Reading Program as well.  This year's theme is Oceanside Treasures, to coincide with the City's 125th anniversary.  Adults can earn prizes for each 3 books read, and learn more about Oceanside's history and grandeur.  Call (760)-435-5600 for details.

Alex Road Skatepark coming soon...Grip up your board and get ready to roll! Oceanside‚Äôs newest skatepark broke ground in February and is anticipated to be completed by the end of August 2013.  This skatepark is the latest installment in a series of neighborhood-based skateparks located in the City of Oceanside. 

The Park is on the northwest corner of Alex Road and Foussat Road (MAP). It will include 3 bowls, 1 radical snake run, and a street area featuring banks, steps, rails and ledges.  The project also includes viewing areas for visitors and a biological buffer area planted with California native shrub and tree species.  View information on all of Oceanside's Skateparks

Use less water with FREE mulch for Oceanside residents! Pick up free compost and mulch for use in your home garden. Call the El Corazon Compost Facility for mulch availability. Bring your drivers license, utility bill or other identification showing your Oceanside address. Located at 3210 Oceanside Blvd., El Corazon also offers free community gardening classes each month.
