The City of Oceanside is designing a 0.5-mile Class I multimodal path including a bicycle/pedestrian bridge over Loma Alta Creek, completing Oceanside's segment of the Coastal Rail Trail (CRT). The CRT is a regional Class I bicycle/pedestrian facility connecting 44 miles through San Diego, Del Mar, Solana Beach, Encinitas, Carlsbad, and Oceanside in San Diego County. This project, between Morse Street and Oceanside Boulevard in the southernmost part of the city, will fill a critical gap in Oceanside's active transportation network to connect with the rest of San Diego County.
Although bicyclists/pedestrians can travel along Pacific Street or Coast Highway to get from one segment of the Coastal Rail Trail to the next: collision data, speeds, traffic volumes, and public input show this location deters walking/biking. This project will sperate these users from motor vehicles.
