The Joe Balderrama Recreation Center, located in three-acre Joe Balderrama Park, is a 12,000-square-foot facility designed to meet the needs of the Eastside Community. Included in the facility are an auditorium with a stage and kitchen, game/activities room, four multi-purpose/meeting rooms and two courtyards. Approximately 100,000 annual participants take advantage of the many activities and special events offered at the center. Activities include daily childcare, after-school programs, teen programs, a variety of youth sports, dance, fitness and educational classes, day camps and community-wide special events.
As a recipient of Community Development Block Grant funds, the Joe Balderrama Recreation Center encourages collaborative efforts between North County Community Services and Vista Community Clinic.

Named For: Originally named for its location in the eastside of the neighborhood, the park was renamed in 1967 for Joe Balderrama, a World War II soldier from Oceanside killed in Germany in 1944.
