Enjoy a special visit from historian John Anderson at 5:00 p.m., before Mystery Book Club meets at 6:00 p.m., on Wednesday, February 24, 2016, in the Civic Center Library Foundation Room at 330 North Coast Highway, Oceanside. Mr. Anderson will compare the depiction of the Los Angeles Police Department from 1940-1960 in James Ellroy’s L.A. Confidential to historical information. Exploring the rumors of secret intelligence units, corruption and racial profiling, Anderson will parse fact from myth to reveal a complex portrait of a great city’s police force pulled into the era of great change, and the legacy resulting from its adaptation to growth and changing social climate. Mr. Anderson is a former host of L.A. “Movies and American Society,” and co-chair of the North County Film Club. Following the program, feel free to stay for a discussion of the gripping noir book L.A. Confidential by James Ellroy.
