Synchronized Swimming

Synchronized Swimming is a longstanding Oceanside tradition.  The first Synchronized Swimming show took place in the summer of 1966 and we've been keeping it going year after year since.  We take great pride in creating a fun place for kids to improve their swimming skills and gain a sense of confidence as they create a summer showcase from the bottom up.  Our program may be a little different than the synchronized swimming you're thinking of, such as in the Olympics.  Although we encourage the refined development of specific synchro skills, our goal is to have fun and put on a wacky, entertaining and inspiring show to keep our tradition going for years to come.  Here flips, spins and giggles are always encouraged.

Participants will spend the duration of our program learning synchro moves, developing their own numbers, as well as planning, decorating and fundraising for the big show.  Each summer has it's own theme selected by the instructors before registration begins.  Some past themes have included:

  • 2019- Out of This World: Space & Beyond

  • 2018- Pool of Rock: Rock'n'Roll Synchro

  • 2017- Camp Marshall: Summer Camp Synchro

  • 2016- 50th Anniversary Show: A Trip Back in Time

  • 2015- Synchro Circus

COVID Adjustments

For the Summer 2021 Season, Synchronized Swimming will take place as 3 two-week classes with no Big Show.
Classes take place at Marshall Street Swim Center Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays from 6pm to 7pm.
Session 1: June 14th to June 24th
Session 2: June 28th to July 8th
Session 3: July 12th to July 22nd

We are excited to get back to our favorite Oceanside tradition as soon as it is deemed safe to do so.

Participants

This program is for children ages 6 to 15 with the ability to swim freestyle and backstroke for a minimum of 15 yards.  Any child that has successfully passed our Jellyfish Learn to Swim Exit Skills is eligible to enroll in our synchronized swimming program.  If you are not sure of your child's ability and would like to get them enrolled in synchronized swimming, please reach out to our Aquatics Staff by e-mailing Aquatics@oceansideca.org.

The Big Show!

Our big show takes place on the last Saturday of July beginning at dusk at Marshall Street Swim Center.  The show is an excellent fun-filled family event equipped with a DJ, raffles and a snack bar.  All proceeds go towards the Synchro Program for the following year.

How We Fundraise

Fundraisers are held throughout the summer, mainly in bake sales & popsicle sales during family recreational swim hours.  During the night of the show all of the items raffled off and snack bar is made of donated goods.  We rely on local businesses to donate small non-monetary items for our raffle & snack bar.  In return, we hope that in raffling off goods the synchro program can help by bringing more traffic to their business.  For larger items, we hold a silent auction on the night of the big show where the winners are announced before the final number.
