Senior Transportation Program

Oceanside’s Senior Transportation Program

“Solutions for Seniors on the Go”
provides Oceanside Residents 65 years of age or older with transportation options to easily get to and from doctor’s appointments, pharmacies, grocery stores, and other daily outings. The three different transportation services offered through the “Solutions for Seniors on the Go” are as follows:

Volunteer Driver Services
This service is free and is a door-through-door transportation option. The free service is made possible, in part, by members of the community who have volunteered to use their own vehicle to provide rides to seniors. The ride is requested through the Transportation Coordinator and then added to our Ride Scheduler system. Our staff will contact the rider as soon as the volunteer driver accepts the ride. Drivers will provide assistance to vehicle, including carrying of bags, groceries and waiting at doctor's office. Our driver will then return the senior home.

The primary focus of our Volunteer Driver Service is to provide rides to medical-related appointments. If a volunteer driver is not available for the appointment, members of the program are encouraged to use the other options listed below.

Taxi Scrip Purchase
Purchasing taxi scrip provides a curb-to-curb transportation option which costs the senior $8 for a ride booklet valued at $20. This program is intended for trips anywhere within North County. This is a great option for weekly trips to grocery store, pharmacy and other daily trips.

Ride Service
The ride service costs $5 per one-way trip and is a door-to-door transportation option. The service provides transportation seven days a week from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm, to any location within Oceanside, Carlsbad, and Vista. In addition, transportation is provided to Scripps Clinic Encinitas, Palomar Medical Center Escondido, Camp Pendleton Naval Hospital, and any medical facility in San Marcos. This ride service requires a 72 hour advance notice and reservations can be made up to 7 days in advance. For more information on Ride FACT call (760) 754-1252.

TIPS and gratuity are welcomed on taxi scrip services only. They are NOT accepted in the shuttle service or volunteer driver service. Tips and gratuities are at the discretion of the rider and are never required.

Volunteer drivers are needed! To be eligible to drive you must be 18 years of age or older, have a valid driver’s license and insurance, and have a good DMV record. All volunteers are required to be fingerprinted and pass a background check prior to “working." Volunteer drivers are provided mileage reimbursement at $.58 per mile.
