The Housing Authority Social Workers will be stationed at the Oceanside Housing Authority office  to provide Case Management focusing on individuals/families experiencing homelessness or at imminent risk of homelessness.

How Diversion Works

Diversion engages families early in their homeless crisis so they can move quickly into safe housing—ideally within 30 days. It is laser-focused on helping families move past the immediate barriers they face in obtaining safe housing. Barriers can range from a dispute with a past landlord to not being able to afford move-in costs of first and last
month’s rent.

Diversion differs from other homeless interventions by asking families to identify possible housing solutions based on their own available resources rather than those of the homeless response system.

The Housing Social Worker(s) will utilize housing navigation to assist the homeless in locating a housing unit, apply for the unit, activate any and all utilities needed (to include obtaining security and utility deposits) and move-in once inspection approved. The PHA social workers will be responsible for a variety of activities to assist persons experiencing homelessness and at imminent risk of homelessness 

Case Management 

The Housing Social Workers will assist homeless persons (in the voucher eligibility process) and formerly homeless voucher participants access benefits and resources, and address any barriers to finding and staying stably housed including interacting with other agencies on behalf of the client when appropriate. Assisting clients with no or minimal income to obtain income is a priority and is a key factor in longer term housing stability.
