Finding a rental home can be challenging during a competitive market, especially for our low-income families in high-risk communities who aspire to provide a secure and comfortable environment for their loved ones. Yet, an often-overlooked challenge during this journey is the application process and, more particularly, the fees associated with application screening reports.

Program Guidelines

The City of Oceanside's Housing and Neighborhood Services Department offers a maximum reimbursement of $64.50 for each household member aged 18 years or older who is applying for housing and intends to be part of the lease.

To apply for relief under this program, applicants are required to provide the following:

• Applicants must submit receipts as evidence of payment for the tenant screening report, including any applicable refunds.

• Reimbursement for tenant screening report costs will be accessible starting from July 1, 2023, and will continue until all designated funds are depleted.

• Each household member and/or the entire household has the opportunity to request assistance from the City on up to three occasions. Priority consideration will be granted to very low-income households.
