Overview

Oceanside’s famous Surf Camp provides a place for campers ages 7 1/2 - 16 to practice their surfing skills in a safe environment. First time campers MUST pass a swim test BEFORE they can register.

The Oceanside Surf Camp is designed for intermediate and advanced surfers with a solid understanding of the foundations of surfing. Counselors will provide group pop up guidance on the first day as well as very light individualized guidance throughout the week. Additional activities may include beach games, a pier walk, ocean etiquette, and ocean safety.

Foam boards and rash guards are provided to participants to use during camp. Participants need to pack any additional beach day supplies for personal use. Lunch, water, sunscreen, and swim suits are not provided by the camp. We also recommend campers bring a sweatshirt, a long sleeve shirt, a sun hat, and two towels. Oceanside Surf camp also does not provide or rent wetsuits; however, campers can bring their own wetsuit to wear under their camp rash guard.

Children may bring their own surfboards. Hardtop surfboards will be subject to a skills test to ensure the participant is safe and comfortable catching waves on the outside. Any personal belongings, including personal surfboards, is the sole responsibility of the camper and may not be stored at the camp. The Camp is not responsible for lost or stolen items.

 Surf Camp takes place just north of the pier near the Junior Seau Beach Community Center.

Participants

All first-time surf campers must pass a swim test before they are able to register. Surf camp swim testing takes place at William A. Wagner Aquatics Center. To make an appointment, please call WAC at (760) 435-5370. Returning campers do not need to take their swim test again, unless they are moving up from Junior Surf Camp to 8+ Surf Camp. 

Our pre-registration Surf Camp swim test for ages 8 and up consists of:

• 100 Yard Swim
• Treading Water for 5 Minutes

Participants cannot register in surf camp before successfully passing our swim test.
Registration is first-come first-served. We do not hold positions.

How to Register

1. Set up an Active Account for yourself, add your children on after.
2. Call Wagner Aquatic Center & make a swim test appointment.
3. Pass the swim test.
4. Enroll!
5. Submit your child's OAAR Emergency Form online.
