Make a Difference in Your Community

Have you ever wanted to inspire others toward one of your own passions such as art, music, or nature? Have you ever wondered how you can help in the outreach to youth in your neighborhood? Well, Parks & Recreation can provide you the perfect opportunity.

Volunteering can have a positive impact on the Oceanside community and can also provide meaningful benefits to the volunteer at the same time. Helping others can provide you with new experiences of diversity, feelings of being needed and valued, improvements in health, self-esteem and confidence, not to mention FUN. Come volunteer with us!

Volunteer Opportunities

  • Volunteer Drivers (Senior Transportation) - Drivers 18 and older may volunteer to drive seniors in our senior transportation program. Volunteer drivers are essential in providing transportation for medical appointments, pharmacy trips, dentist appointments, and more. Volunteer drivers must have a valid driver’s license, car insurance, credible DMV record, and registration. Drivers must use their own vehicles and will be reimbursed for their mileage.
  • Volunteer Instructors (Senior Services) - The Senior Services team is seeking volunteer instructors for any art, language, technology, or exercise classes. Our goal is to provide all of our seniors with classes that give an energetic lifestyle! Please note that all volunteer instructors will need to provide availability for classes, and the class must be open to the public.
  • Community Events - Volunteers are accepted for several community events throughout the year. Volunteers could help with a variety of tasks, including event set-up and tear-down, staffing a booth, directing traffic, and more. Staff can sign off on Community Service hours for high school students or provide Letters of Appreciation for military volunteers.
  • Clerical Support - This position recruits assistants to greet customers at the main administration office and other recreation centers.
  • Teen Leadership - Teen leadership opportunities are available through our teen programs and the Jr. Camp Counselor program. This is ideal for high school students looking for Community Service hours for classroom credit and for job experience and mentorship.
    • Parents please note that, as a leadership learning opportunity, it is part of the experience for teens to inquire, coordinate, and schedule their own commitment.
  • Cultural and Neighborhood Outreach Instructors and Mentors - Open to all adults to be an instructor or mentor (preferably Spanish bilingual) at one of the Resource Centers: Crown Heights, Chavez, or Libby Lake. Please contact the Housing and Neighborhood Services Department at (760) 435-3360 for this opportunity.
